The stories in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uap.ualberta.ca\/titles\/886-9781772122978-annie-muktuk-and-other-stories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Annie Muktuk and Other Stories<\/em><\/a>\u00a0portray the unvarnished realities of northern life via strong and gritty characters.<\/p>\n<p>Jury members praised Dunning for crafting &#8220;spellbinding narratives&#8221; centring on Inuit characters that &#8220;deliver raw emotion and an acute sense of humanity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Norma has also won two other awards this spring for <em>Annie Muktuk and Other Stories<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">One of her stories from\u00a0the collection, &#8220;Elipsee&#8221;, won the Writers&#8217; Guild of Alberta&#8217;s <\/span><a style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\" href=\"https:\/\/writersguild.ca\/programs-services\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Howard O\u2019Hagan Award for Short Story<\/a><span style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">The full collection also took a Bronze in the North American independent publishing contest, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forewordreviews.com\/awards\/winners\/2017\/short-stories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards<\/a>, in the Short Stories category. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">Finally,\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">Annie Muktuk and Other Stories<\/em><span style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\"> has been shortlisted for the <\/span><a style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\" href=\"https:\/\/writersguild.ca\/programs-services\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Kroetsch City of Edmonton Book Prize<\/a><span style=\"font-family:-apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9132\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9132\" style=\"width: 365px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/holeinthebucket.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/06\/3gala-2734.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9132\" src=\"https:\/\/holeinthebucket.files.wordpress.com\/2018\/06\/3gala-2734.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Norma Dunning with award certificate.\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9132\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Norma Dunning at the Alberta Literary Awards gala in June 2018.
