On Friday, we received news that three University of Alberta Press titles had won design awards from the prestigious <a title=\"AAUP winners\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aaupnet.org\/programs\/marketing\/designshow\/winners2010.html\" target=\"_blank\">AAUP Book, Journal &amp; Jacket Show<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of 281 books submitted, only 46 books and journals are included in this year\u2019s show. For covers, there were 272 entries, with only 41 chosen.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the jurors selected three books designed by our designer, Alan Brownoff. The first was for <strong>Book Design<\/strong> in the category of Poetry and Literature, for <em>Rudy Wiebe: Collected Stories, 1955\u20132010<\/em>. <em>The Measure of Paris<\/em> by Stephen Scobie and <em>Too Bad<\/em> by Robert Kroetsch both won for <strong>Jackets &amp; Covers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The work of the following three artists was used on these covers: <a title=\"Artist website\" href=\"http:\/\/loquehacealejandromagallanes.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alejandro Magallane<\/a>s, <a title=\"Artist website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.millon-associes.com\/brassai-succession\/index-En.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Brassa\u00ef<\/a>, and <a title=\"Artist website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mayberryfineart.com\/vivian-thierfelder-juxtaposed\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vivian Thierfelder<\/a>. The University of Alberta Press is deeply appreciative of their work.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, almost all of the Canadian university presses are represented in the <a title=\"AAUP winners\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aaupnet.org\/programs\/marketing\/designshow\/winners2010.html\" target=\"_blank\">AAUP Book, Journal &amp; Jacket Show<\/a>. The University of Alberta Press believes design is one of the ways a publisher can add value to a book. Clearly, other Canadian university presses agree!<\/p>\n<p>Alan is one of the judges for the Alcuin Awards for Book Design in Canada once again. Judging is in March, with winners announced in April on their <a title=\"Alcuin website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alcuinsociety.com\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the authors of these marvelous books, and, of course, to Alan.
