{"id":4536,"date":"2017-05-10T13:54:06","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T19:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.library.ualberta.ca\/ualbertapressblog\/2015\/10\/08\/the-writing-stick-sharing-indigenous-stories\/"},"modified":"2018-10-29T09:13:24","modified_gmt":"2018-10-29T15:13:24","slug":"the-writing-stick-sharing-indigenous-stories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.library.ualberta.ca\/ualbertapressblog\/2017\/05\/10\/the-writing-stick-sharing-indigenous-stories\/","title":{"rendered":"The Writing Stick: Sharing Indigenous Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Tanya Ball<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With less than a month before the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/a\/ualberta.ca\/the-writing-stick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Writing Stick Conference<\/a>, we are excited to announce that our programming is in place and over 100 people have registered already.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned on our <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/a\/ualberta.ca\/the-writing-stick\/program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>, we have three days of programming lined up including keynote speakers, film shorts, panel sessions, food, and much more!<\/p>\n<p>Our keynote speakers are one of the many highlights of the conference:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marie Wilson<\/li>\n<li>Armand Garnet Ruffo<\/li>\n<li>Richard Van Camp<\/li>\n<li>Patti LaBoucane-Benson<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Writing Stick would like to formally announce our Elder in Residence, Elder Wilson Bearhead from the Paul First Nation. He will be available throughout the conference to\u00a0provide learning opportunities for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants. Elders from Treaty 7 and Treaty 8 Territories will also be present to perform opening and closing prayers.
