{"id":8166,"date":"2021-05-18T15:31:52","date_gmt":"2021-05-18T21:31:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.library.ualberta.ca\/ualbertapressblog\/?p=8166"},"modified":"2021-05-18T15:31:52","modified_gmt":"2021-05-18T21:31:52","slug":"alan-brownoffs-work-recognized-by-au-presses-once-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.library.ualberta.ca\/ualbertapressblog\/2021\/05\/18\/alan-brownoffs-work-recognized-by-au-presses-once-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Alan Brownoff&#8217;s Work Recognized by AU Presses Once Again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Heartiest congratulations to our designer&nbsp;<strong>Alan Brownoff<\/strong>, winner of two selections at the <a href=\"https:\/\/aupresses.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/aupresses.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Association of University Presses&nbsp;<\/a>2021 Book, Jacket, and Journal Show, an international design award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alan is recognized in the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/design.up.hcommons.org\/2021-scholarly-typographic-selections\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scholarly Typographic<\/a>&nbsp;category for his work on the monumental&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uap.ualberta.ca\/titles\/977-9781772124828-our-whole-gwichin-way-of-life-has-changed-gwichin-kyuu-gwiidandai-tthak-ejuk-goonlih\" target=\"_blank\">Our Whole Gwich\u2019in Way of Life Has Changed \/ Gwich\u2019in K\u2019yuu Gwiidand\u00e0i\u2019 Tthak Ejuk G\u00f2onlih:&nbsp;Stories from the People of the Land<\/a><\/em>, by&nbsp;Leslie McCartney and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gwichintribal.ca\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gwichintribal.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gwich&#8217;in Tribal Council<\/a>, which records&nbsp;twenty-three Gwich\u2019in Elders from the Northwest Territories communities of Fort McPherson, Tsiigehtshik, Inuvik, and Aklavik sharing their joy of living and travelling on the land. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alan is also recognized in the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/design.up.hcommons.org\/2021-poetry-and-literature-selections\/\" target=\"_blank\">Poetry and Literature<\/a>&nbsp;category for his design of&nbsp;<em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uap.ualberta.ca\/titles\/973-9781772125108-i-am-still-your-negro\" target=\"_blank\">I Am Still Your Negro:&nbsp;An Homage to James Baldwin<\/a><\/em>, by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valeriemason-john.com\/books\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.valeriemason-john.com\/books\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Valerie Mason-John<\/a>, in which the spoken-word poet unsettles readers with potent images of ongoing trauma from slavery and colonization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alan&#8217;s skill and talent are on full display in these books. The care he puts into every project adds tremendous value to their production, shining a brighter light on the authors&#8217; writing.
