Hi all, this week, you may have heard the visiting colleagues from Library and Archives Canada refer to a new report from the research division at OCLC. The report is entitled “Maple Leaves: Discovering Canada Through the Published Record” [link to pdf]. The analysis in the report is based on WorldCat holdings data, as of January 2019.
The report offers fascinating statistics, supported by detailed definitions and explanations, including but not limited to:
- How many Canadian publications exist (approximately 10.9 million)
- Most popular Canadian authors and published works, by library holdings, including comics authors (hint: the #1 English-language author lives in central Alberta)
- Most popular Canadian vocalists and albums (hint: Raffi, but not only Raffi)
- Trends in publishing, such as most published Canadian authors by decade
- Presence of Canadian publications in other countries’ libraries, and other languages
- Numbers of publications in different indigenous languages
Enjoy!
