Elsevier cuts off the University of California

Everyone, an update on the Elsevier/University of California situation. If you’ve been following this story, you’ll recall that in February, UC announced that it would not renew its Elsevier subscriptions. In brief, in their negotiations, Elsevier was unwilling to recognise (and then compensate for) the nearly one million dollars paid by UC researchers in Article Processing Charges (APCs), on top of the millions in subscription fees paid by the library. This business of collecting both APCs and subscription fees is widely referred to as “double dipping.”

As of early July, Elsevier has cut off UC’s access. For more, you may be interested to read:
