We’ve created an asset on the A-Z list for an Open Access database developed with the participation of the UofA Department of Sociology:
The State Funding for Social Movements database (database.statefunding.ca) is a new digital tool for teaching or research related to Canada’s nonprofit sector. It is a database of government grants to NGOs in Canada from 1960 to 2014. There are more than 13,000 organizations listed in the database, from established NGOs such as the Elizabeth Fry Society and the Assembly of First Nations to less familiar organizations such as the Alberni Environmental Coalition and the Aboriginal Network on Disability Society. Researchers can use this resource to study trends in funding for NGOs over time periods and between jurisdictions; document the diversity of NGOs in Canada; identify new NGOs that have never been studied; compare funding levels among similar organizations; explore how and why funding varies over time; compare funding levels for the nonprofit sector by governments and time periods; compare funding by cities and provinces; and much more.
