Now Available! SciFree Journal Search Tool & Revised APC Support Page

CSU is delighted to announce that the APC-Free and APC-Discounted Journal Search Tool is now available for everyone, via the Library website. To navigate to the Journal Search Tool, go to the Article Processing Charge Support page (which is listed under Library Services), and click the large green button.

About the Journal Search Tool

You will probably encounter “SciFree” as a name for this tool, as SciFree is the name of the company that created it. However, there’s no great need for us to brand the Journal Search Tool as “SciFree” or to push campus community members to use this name.

The Journal Search Tool enables you to search for journals where U of A corresponding authors can receive Open Access publishing without needing to pay Article Processing Charges (APC-Free publishing), or where they receive a discount off the full APC cost (APC-discounted publishing). Altogether there are over 10,000 journals in the Journal Search Tool.

Demo Video Available

I’ve also created a short explainer/overview/demo video for everyone who wasn’t able to attend a training session. You’re also welcome to share this more widely, as needed: https://youtu.be/hJyKDdPfNLM

Updates to Article Processing Charge Support Page

As part of launching the Journal Search Tool, we also updated the Library’s Article Processing Charge Support page. It retains the same information as before, except for the many linked spreadsheets containing lists of journal titles — because these lists are superseded by the Journal Search Tool.

  • Natasha for also enriching the user interface of the Journal Search Tool;
