As you know, we prefer to purchase ebooks in perpetuity, and do so whenever possible. For some ebook resources, however, such as O’Reilly Books (formerly known as Safari), subscribing is the only option. As such, publishers can remove their books from this resource. This is a rare event, but it does happen.
This week, publisher Dorling Kindersley pulled 532 books out of O’Reilly. We will not proactively replace them, due to very low use, and the peripheral role of these books in the collection. To be more specific, of these 532 books, 26 (about 5%) were ever used. The two most-used ebooks were Superfood Breakfasts and How Not to Kill Your Houseplant.
At the same time, it’s always possible that somebody in our community will miss one of these books. As always, please refer them to the Recommend a Purchase form if this happens. The list of removed books is also attached here in case you’d like to see it.
Thank you to Amanda Nagyl of the monographs cataloguing team for removing the records for these books!
