Have you ever thought about the possibility of discovering a technique that could help reduce the environmental impact of conventional mining practices and unlock the hidden potential of coal reserves? My research explores oxidative coal dissolution as a method to add value to Canada’s vast coal resources beyond what is typically achieved through solid coal production.

The image depicts a woman scientist inspecting coal and discovering something surprising and valuable. The female scientist represents the diverse and talented team of researchers in my group who are working collaboratively to develop novel approaches to value addition in the coal industry. Through an innovative and forward-thinking approach, I aim to unlock the full potential of coal as a valuable source of energy and chemical feedstocks.

The magnifier the scientist holds symbolizes the innovative approach, which allows me to see beyond the traditional limitations of coal. The research leverages marginal coal reserves to generate additional value and identify potential pathways for upgrading coal to marketable products. Ultimately, my goal is to reduce the environmental impact of conventional mining practices while unlocking the full potential of coal as a valuable resource.
