The overall goal of my research is to develop an intervention for restoration of standing and walking after severe spinal cord injury in humans using intraspinal microstimulation (ISMS).
This image shows astrocytes (magenta) and cell nuclei (blue) on and around microcoils in a cell culture setting. The microcoils were fabricated to make stretchable ISMS devices. We cultured astrocyte cells to quantify the cell adhesion and foreign body response to the microcoils. The image was acquired on a Leica SP8 confocal microscope.
