The image captures a light-hearted but critical step in molecular biology – colony selection during cloning/Gibson assembly. Each Agrobacterium colony symbolizes a potential success in assembling the genetic material needed for my plant research. In the image, imagined speech bubbles reflect the uncertainty and anticipation scientists feel while screening for a colony carrying the desired insert. This process is central to my research on understanding the role of particular genes for early flowering time regulation in canola through gene cloning. The image transforms a routine lab step into a moment of curiosity and discovery, highlighting how even the smallest colonies can carry the potential for impactful agricultural outcomes.

Was your image created using Generative AI?
No.

How was your image created?
The photo was captured by me from my phone. I edited it using the SNAPSEED app by changing the Vignette to -50 and modified it using the selective tune option. To add the speech bubble and text, I use the Canva app. The picture I downloaded from Canva is less than 100 dpi but the requirement is at least 200 dpi. So, I use online tool ImageResizer.com to change the dpi to 1200 dpi.

Where is the image located?
The image is captured during my research work in the Agricultural Genomics and Proteomics Unit (AGP Unit), Department of Agricultural, Food & Nutritional Sciences, Agriculture/Forestry building, University of Alberta.
