International Women’s Day 2018

I saw this post last year – A Bookstore Is Displaying All Books By Men Backward – and thought it to be a great post to share this year for International Women’s Day. It is a strong visual aid that illustrates the gender gap in publishing.

So today, Cathie and I turned all male-authored or -edited books that we have displayed on our shelves in Ring House 2. These books include all of the titles we have published that are still available in print. Our selection process included some judgment calls, as some of our edited collections have both male and female contributors, yet it was an interesting exercise.

Our average of female-authored books is much better when it comes to our recently published titles:

Finally, checking our last four catalogues or two years of titles, the tally is 26 books that include female authors, editors, or contributors and 11 books edited or authored only by males.
