The Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA) has announced the shortlist for the 2021 Alberta Book Publishing Awards, representing the finest of Alberta book publishing as determined by leading professionals in the book industry from across Canada.
“The juries had their work cut out for them, as they deliberated on 109 titles submitted into 13 award categories,” said Kieran Leblanc, Executive Director of the BPAA.
University of Alberta Press and its authors were delighted to see three books from its publishing program on the shortlist.
Scholarly & Academic Book of the Year: Our Whole Gwich’in Way of Life Has Changed / Gwich’in K’yuu Gwiidandài’ Tthak Ejuk Gòonlih: Stories from the People of the Land by Leslie McCartney and Gwich’in Tribal Council.
Trade Non-Fiction Book of the Year: An Autobiography of the Autobiography of Reading by Dionne Brand.
Book Design: All the Feels / Tous les sens: Affect and Writing in Canada / Affect et écriture au Canada edited by Marie Carrière, Ursula Mathis-Moser, and Kit Dobson and designed by our wonderful colleague, Alan Brownoff.
The winners of the 2021 Alberta Book Publishing Awards will be announced in a virtual presentation, premiering on the BPAA YouTube channel on September 17.
