The Alberta Book Publishing Awards Shortlist is Out

We are thrilled to announce that UAlberta Press has ten shortlistings for eight titles across six categories, including four for our brilliant designer Alan Brownoff.

The shortlist for the 2022 Alberta Book Publishing Awards “represents the finest of Alberta book publishing as determined by leading professionals in the book industry from across Canada, and showcases the wide range of Alberta-published books,” says Kieran Leblanc, Executive Director of the Book Publishers Association of Alberta.

Our shortlisted titles and categories are noted below.

Scholarly & Academic Book of the Year: Appealing Because He Is Appalling: Black Masculinities, Colonialism, and Erotic Racism edited by Tamari Kitossa AND Indigenous Women and Street Gangs: Survivance Narratives by Amber, Bev, Chantel, Jazmyne, Faith, Jorgina and Robert Henry.

Learning Book of the Year: Ethics for the Practice of Psychology in Canada, Third Edition by Derek Truscott and Kenneth H. Crook.

Trade Non-Fiction Book of the Year: Impact: Women Writing After Concussion edited by E. D. Morin and Jane Cawthorne AND On Foot to Canterbury: A Son’s Pilgrimage by Ken Haigh.

Robert Kroetsch Award for Poetry: The Bad Wife by Micheline Maylor.

Book Cover Design: Deriving by Jennifer Bowering Delisle AND Impact: Women Writing After Concussion edited by E. D. Morin and Jane Cawthorne. Both covers were designed by Alan Brownoff.

Book Design: On Foot to Canterbury: A Son’s Pilgrimage by Ken Haigh AND Situating Design in Alberta edited by Isabel Prochner and Tim Antoniuk. Both books were designed by Alan Brownoff.
